Interview with Sareena Daniel

Each year, the construction industry, guided by the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), dedicates the first week of March to honoring and promoting the role of women in the construction industry. This year’s Women in Construction Week theme, Keys to the Future, celebrates women’s strength and knowledge and their vital role in shaping the construction industry’s future.

In honor of this year’s Women in Construction week, The Concord Group is sitting down with some of our very own women in construction for a special Q&A. Join us for this as we learn about their construction journeys, their roles at Concord, and their insights about being a woman in this industry.

Q&A with Sareena Daniel, Project Manager at The Concord Group

Meet Sareena Daniel, Project Manager at The Concord Group. Today, we sat down with Sareena and asked her a few questions about her career in construction.

How did you decide on a career in the construction industry?
I decided on a career in project management first and discovered construction through Concord. It’s been a great fit and I’ve really grown to like the construction industry.

What is your current role and what does it entail?
I’m a project manager. I work with owners, architects, and contractors to create project budgets and schedules and to deliver the projects to those goals. I also work with assistant project managers on project controls, such as reviewing change orders, invoices, quality reports, and schedules.

What do you like most about your career?
I love that no two projects are alike – even no two days are alike – so I’m always challenged to learn new things.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
I’ve had the opportunity to work on projects with great causes, such as shelters for the unhoused and medical research facilities. It’s rewarding to me to know that I was part of the team that constructed a building that’s serving its community well.

What advice would you give to women who are thinking about a career in construction?
Go for it! All industries need a variety of thinkers and that starts with building diverse teams. Being different than the rest just means that you’ll bring a new perspective to a group.

What is the best advice you’ve received during your career?
Trust your gut and your own knowledge, but don’t be afraid to ask questions. It just might lead to a discovery.
