Interview with Katie Condron

Each year, the construction industry, guided by the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), dedicates the first week of March to honoring and promoting the role of women in the construction industry. This year’s Women in Construction Week theme, Keys to the Future, celebrates women’s strength and knowledge and their vital role in shaping the construction industry’s future.

In honor of this year’s Women in Construction week, The Concord Group is sitting down with some of our very own women in construction for a special Q&A. Join us for this as we learn about their construction journeys, their roles at Concord, and their insights about being a woman in this industry.

Q&A with Katie Condron, Marketing Manager at The Concord Group

Meet Katie Condron, Marketing Manager at The Concord Group.  Today, we sat down with Katie and asked her a few questions about her career in construction.

How did you decide on a career in the construction industry?
I did not seek out the construction industry – it sort of found me.  I joined the marketing team at Concord and have been able to utilize my background as an English major in all aspects of the firm’s marketing efforts.

What is your current role and what does it entail?
My current role is Marketing Manager.  As Marketing Manager, I work with our technical team putting together proposal responses for potential projects and help develop marketing materials used at conferences, on our website and across our social media platforms.

What do you like most about your career?
While I really enjoy the opportunity to be creative and I am constantly learning more about our industry, my favorite thing about my career is the team that I work on. Being new to the industry, I have learned so much from the people around me.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
The most rewarding aspect of my job is being able to facilitate my colleagues in whatever endeavors they are pursuing.  Whether we are working on a proposal together, collaborating on the best ways to present our company’s value, or creating social media campaigns, working behind the scenes with the marketing team allows me the chance to collaborate with our technical employees across all of our services.

What advice would you give to women who are thinking about a career in construction?
My advice to women considering a career in construction is not to be afraid to speak up.

Do you have any female mentors?
Coming into The Concord Group, I had never heard the term “RFP,” nor had I ever used InDesign.  Now, 6 years later, I feel confident leading a proposal response and that is due to everything I’ve learned from our Director of Marketing, Jenny DePaolis. Jenny is knowledgeable and creative and has been a wealth of knowledge for me.  She has also been a great role model as one of the first female Directors at Concord.

Are you involved with any industry-related organizations?
I am a member of SMPS, the Society for Marketing Professional Services
