Interview with Anna Molinaro Wakley

Each year, the construction industry, guided by the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), dedicates the first week of March to honoring and promoting the role of women in the construction industry. This year’s Women in Construction Week theme, Keys to the Future, celebrates women’s strength and knowledge and their vital role in shaping the construction industry’s future.

In honor of this year’s Women in Construction week, The Concord Group is sitting down with some of our very own women in construction for a special Q&A. Join us for this as we learn about their construction journeys, their roles at Concord, and their insights about being a woman in this industry.

Q&A with Anna Molinaro Wakley, Project Manager at The Concord Group

Meet Anna Molinaro Wakley, Project Manager at The Concord Group. Today, we sat down with Anna and asked her a few questions about her career in construction.

How did you decide on a career in the construction industry?
With a degree in marketing, I really stumbled upon the construction industry.  My first job out of college was coordinating career exploration programs in the construction industry for high school students and young adults.  It ended up being a career exploration for me as well. Many of these opportunities brought us to active construction sites where we would tour the site and learn from the full project team – from the tradesmen and women to the end user and everyone in between. It was here that my interest in Project Management was sparked.

What is your current role, and what does it entail?
As a Project Manager my duties include managing project controls, project coordination and reporting. I am in day-to-day communication with clients and the project team, ensuring that all tasks are executed and completed in accordance with the Clients’ goals and objectives.

What do you like most about your career?
First and foremost, my coworkers and the value that The Concord Group places on a team approach.  Second, the variety in each day. There is always something new to learn – whether it be specific to a project or the industry in general.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Helping clients see their projects come to fruition and, in turn, add value to their business and the community.

What advice would you give to women who are thinking about a career in construction?
Reach out to your network to help make a connection and take the leap.

What is the best advice you’ve received during your career?
Different isn’t wrong.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced as a woman in construction?
I would like to reframe this question – I think a challenge the construction industry faces is the lack of women in the industry.
